THE TRUE MEANING OF NIRVANA

According to Heinrich Zimmer, Joseph Campbell’s mentor, Buddhism is a sub sect of Shaivism.  And I agree with him.  The first Buddha came from India and realizing that people were not going to be able to receive the full teaching of No Self he prepared them for later.  It wasn’t until Nagarjuna buddha came who was also from India that the full teaching of no self was delivered hundreds of years later.

Their are so many fruity spiritualists that think that being merciful and charitable and pleasant is the concept behind no self.  It actually has to do with not identifying with the ego and the emotional intelligence.  This is the exact opposite of what he taught and the reason he didn’t want to allow women to be monks.

The Buddha’s Prediction

Ananda sat at the Buddha’s side and argued on behalf of the ordination of women. The Buddha continued to refuse the request. Finally, Ananda asked if there was any reason women could not realize enlightenment and enter Nirvana as well as men.

The Buddha admitted there was no reason a woman could not be enlightened. “Women, Ananda, having gone forth are able to realize the fruit of stream-attainment or the fruit of once-returning or the fruit of non-returning or arahantship,” he said.

Ananda had made his point, and the Buddha relented. Pajapati and her 500 followers would be the first Buddhist nuns. But he predicted that allowing women into the Sangha would cause his teachings to survive only half as long – 500 years instead of a 1,000.

Nirvana was not a state brought on by fruity emotionality and delusion, it was a state of accepting reality in its suchness in its beingness.  When buddha was tempted by Mara he was being provoked into any kind of emotional state, which would have been a regress into the female mind.  But buddha had completely severed any identification with emotionality and the female mind.  No desire, and no fear when Mara tried to threaten him with violence.

The bodhicitta, the heart mind, the buddhist and hindu soul, is a marriage of the emotional female brain and the analytical male brain.  Every event, every thought, every word, has emotional data and analytical data.

He tried to explain the happiness that you experience in Nirvana is not like human happiness, it is the absence of suffering, the absence of being happy and then discontent, it is the cessation of karma.  Zero karma, that is the goal of the yogi, to separate himself from the wheel of karma, from Samskara.  No positive karma, not negative karma, and indeed, with understanding their is no karma, and everything is pregnant with meaning.
