My Grandma on my mom’s side was probably the most single influence on my life that wasn’t my parents on account of her vicarious influence on my parents and the people around us.  Like Lon Milo Duquette’s mother she was a charismatic, manipulative,  social climber.  I never really felt akin to her.  She had a big fake smile.  She was always showing my mother how to raise which consisted of my laying on the floor naked in the kitchen when I was sick and her sticking a thermometer in my butt.  And feeding me things that tasted horrible and made me sick and throw up when I already ate healthy in the first place.  She was a control freak and had to be the center of attention.
