Since the dawn of mankind there have been 3 different types of major totems for witch doctors, holy men, shamans, and seers.  The lion, the bull and the eagle.  We are here today to talk about the lion especially as a symbol for predatory cats.  People who study the human brain know that there are different types of intelligences.  One of the more common analogies for describing different but highly functional mentalities is the comparison of the fox and the hedge hog.  Richard Feynman was referred to as the fox because his way of understanding things that nobody else could, and wrapping his mind around them.  Einstein was referred to as the hedgehog because of the way he could humbly edit his consideration set and burrow his way towards the answer and ferret it out.  Richard Feynman was the guy that figured out how the space shuttle Columbia blew up and he had to explain it very slowly and deliberately to other people who didn’t believe him and couldn’t understand his brilliance and the fact that he was correct.

The reason that I bring this up is that for shamans being philosophers the way they hold a question in their mind and follow its sent was symbolized by the ancient super-genii as a stalking cat.  A predatory cat stalking it’s prey.  This symbolism was universal and one particular cult is marked by their use of the predatory cat skin.

Priests
Even though priests, it did not mean serving their god would mean just approaching and proclaiming themselves as priests. They washed themselves several times per day to eliminate off all the body hair to be untainted enough to approach the god. Because of being cleansed to approach the god, they did not wear leather sandals or wool clothing, as it was considered unclean. When serving the god Amun, they would wear leopard skin robes.
In many cults, also known as churches, they did not wear a wig as all men and women wore.

In his book The Chicken Kabbalah, Lon mentions having a rabbinical experience in his cat skin skirt demonstrating the continued theme from Egypt into Occult Judaism, but this metaphor goes back even further all the way to India and Shaivism.  If you are familiar with my theory on the Origins of the True Religion, you will see how consistent this theme is and how many questions it answers.

The first task of Hercules whose name itself is a deviation of Horus the sun god, was to kill the Nemean Lion.  Having done so he wore the skin, in a way becoming the sun.  Remember that in astrology, the lion represents the sun.  This is also were the soul enters the zodiac, from the ancient perspective the soul split itself into male and female before incarnating in the zodiac.  The sun and moon are the only two planets that don’t repeat as rulers of two houses (in the original 7 planet horoscope).  The 12 labors of Hercules are the sun moving through each house and understanding the trials in that house as the soul (sol, sun) perfects itself and learns its lessons through struggle, trial and tribulation.  The Rosicrucian initiation process uses Hercules as a model to this day.

Samson, in the Bible is actually Hercules as well who is also shown above killing a lion.  Samson is also named after the sun with a word that derives from Persian.

Shamash (Akkadian Šamaš “Sun”), was a native Mesopotamian deity and the sun god in the AkkadianAssyrian and Babylonian pantheons. Shamash was the god of justice in Babylonia and Assyria, corresponding to Sumerian Utu. Akkadian šamaš is cognate to Syriac ܫܡܫܐ šemšaor šimšu Hebrew שֶׁמֶשׁ šemeš and Arabic شمس šams. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamash

In Egyptian mythologySeshat (also spelled SafkhetSesatSeshetSesheta, and Seshata) was the Ancient Egyptian goddess of wisdomknowledge, andwriting. She was seen as a scribe and record keeper, and her name means she who scrivens (i.e. she who is the scribe), and is credited with inventing writing. She also became identified as the goddess of architectureastronomyastrologybuildingmathematics, and surveying. These are all professions that relied upon expertise in her skills. She is identified as Safekh-Aubi in some late texts.[6]  ~wikiepdia

In Taoism the Yin and Yang symbols are associated with the tigress and the dragon.  The tigress represents earthly power or success, while the Dragon represents the masculine and heavenly element.  Remember that the symbol for the Ankh is a metaphor for heaven and earth, the male and female symbols juxtaposed, and Thelema, the religion started by Aleister Crowley is the western version of Taoism from an original authentic living guru lineage.  It is the philosophical connection that rationalizes the philosophical systems from all over the world.  In the Osho Zen tarot Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh demonstrates his understanding of the same principle, remember he was also known as the Rock and Roll Guru.

Well I think that is all the dots I am going to connect for you today.  I hope you have enjoyed that little romp through time and across continents and have arrived at a deeper understanding.  Oh yeah, if you want a little more I have included a story that explains how the leopard got its spots from the ancient perspective, not factual but allegorical.

The Lie takes many deceptive forms,
always posing as the Truth.

But Anubis was able, by means of his keen canine senses, to sniff out Seth in whatever form he takes.

Once, Seth assumed the form of a leopard and blended into the desert sand so well that Horus was unable to spot him from the air as he circled high in the sky upon his falcon wings, using his sharp falcon eyes to scan the Earth.

But Anubis sniffed out Seth and decided to brand him so that everyone would be able to see him. Anubis trotted over to the banks of the Nile and dunked his paws in rich black Nile mud. Then he lept onto the leopard and left indelible muddy paw prints all over Seth’s hide.

That is how the leopard got its spots, according to the Ancient Egyptians.

The highest caste of Egyptian magician/priests wore leopard skins to symbolize the never-ending struggle between the Truth and the Lie. The Lie persists. Seth the Deceiver was not killed by Anubis. But Anubis revealed Seth for the Lie that he is.
And that is why the Priests at the Great Temple of Antinoopolis may have worn leopard skins — to demonstrate that it is possible to see through the Lie to uncover the Truth that lies underneath.

ANCIENT PERSPECTIVE ON MASCULINITY AND FEMININITY

Image

The Taoist concept of masculine and feminine is a little difficult for the western mind to contemplate.  Masculinity and femininity exist in relationship with one another.  Allow myself to give you a little example.

The upward pointing triangles in alchemy represented elements that were masculine.  Male elements rise above and over come.  Fire and air.  The line represents a doubling of the energy, more masculine more spiritual.  The water elements gravitate downwards, they are feminine because of their lack of moving, their inertia, their stagnation.

The star of david, or the star of divide as I like to call it is an image of the soul.  The human soul is made out of a divine soul and an animal soul and on death, the divine part returns to heaven and the animal soul returns to the earth.

DESTROYER OF WORLDS

Image

Lynn Marie Le asked me why I am called “The Destroyer of Worlds”.  There are a lot of reasons, my online handle for years has been Shivah Solomon.  My handle, which is also my spiritual name, means Death and Peace.  There is no peace until their is death, but it is a metaphorical death, a philosophical death, the death of ignorance, of delusion.  Shiva is the Hindu god of death.

“The soul is, in a way, phenomena.”

~Aristotle

In my philosophy a person’s soul, is their world, or the world as they understand it, it is their ontology, but their are hidden subjects, a person is aware of phenomena and we can all see phenomena, but the meaning of the phenomena is different for every person.  I might use a sword or a scissors or a chopsticks completely different than they would.  Their relationship with the phenomena is different.  Also the relationship between phenomena is informed by their soul and that is not immediately obvious.  It informs a teleology of reaction.  This is said and this is done, now this is how I react to it.

I am a rather brilliant debater and what I have found is that people cling to their world view.  They project their sense of self onto it and when you start to destroy their world view they start to panic.  Falsifying their world view has negative survival data for them and some people would rather die than know that they are wrong, the problem is their incorrect world view also informs their judgments and their relationships and the way they are in relationship with me and the world.  So as I start to hack through the Gordion Knot that is their world view they start to repeat it like an insane person.  Perseverating as their ignorance and delusion starts to go through its death throes.  It is as though chunks of their world are falling apart and they start trying to put it back together again. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perseveration

It is considered a virtue for some reason to back down from crazy people or wrong people.  I disagree with this conception.  That is what makes the world a sucky place to live.  Idiots and fools and people to stupid to know that they are wrong getting their way because they can’t handle reality and I am expected to tip-toe around them and their issues?  Their is no pleasant way to tell an idiot that they are an idiot and the sooner they find out the better it is for everybody.

THE TRUE MEANING OF NIRVANA

Image

According to Heinrich Zimmer, Joseph Campbell’s mentor, Buddhism is a sub sect of Shaivism.  And I agree with him.  The first Buddha came from India and realizing that people were not going to be able to receive the full teaching of No Self he prepared them for later.  It wasn’t until Nagarjuna buddha came who was also from India that the full teaching of no self was delivered hundreds of years later.

Their are so many fruity spiritualists that think that being merciful and charitable and pleasant is the concept behind no self.  It actually has to do with not identifying with the ego and the emotional intelligence.  This is the exact opposite of what he taught and the reason he didn’t want to allow women to be monks.

The Buddha’s Prediction

Ananda sat at the Buddha’s side and argued on behalf of the ordination of women. The Buddha continued to refuse the request. Finally, Ananda asked if there was any reason women could not realize enlightenment and enter Nirvana as well as men.

The Buddha admitted there was no reason a woman could not be enlightened. “Women, Ananda, having gone forth are able to realize the fruit of stream-attainment or the fruit of once-returning or the fruit of non-returning or arahantship,” he said.

Ananda had made his point, and the Buddha relented. Pajapati and her 500 followers would be the first Buddhist nuns. But he predicted that allowing women into the Sangha would cause his teachings to survive only half as long – 500 years instead of a 1,000.

http://buddhism.about.com/od/buddhisthistory/a/buddhistwomen.htm

Nirvana was not a state brought on by fruity emotionality and delusion, it was a state of accepting reality in its suchness in its beingness.  When buddha was tempted by Mara he was being provoked into any kind of emotional state, which would have been a regress into the female mind.  But buddha had completely severed any identification with emotionality and the female mind.  No desire, and no fear when Mara tried to threaten him with violence.

The bodhicitta, the heart mind, the buddhist and hindu soul, is a marriage of the emotional female brain and the analytical male brain.  Every event, every thought, every word, has emotional data and analytical data.

Image

He tried to explain the happiness that you experience in Nirvana is not like human happiness, it is the absence of suffering, the absence of being happy and then discontent, it is the cessation of karma.  Zero karma, that is the goal of the yogi, to separate himself from the wheel of karma, from Samskara.  No positive karma, not negative karma, and indeed, with understanding their is no karma, and everything is pregnant with meaning.

EVERYTHING I KNOW LOOKS THROUGH ME.

ImageEverthing that I know looks through me at the world, every experience, every book I have read, every interaction I have had, every person I have loved.

Aristotle, “The soul is in a way phenomena.”

My experiences in the world, of the world, look back at the world. What I know of the world turns again on the world and scrutinizes it.

God be thanked for books; they are the voices of the distant and the dead, and make us heirs of the spiritual life of past ages.Channing, William Ellery

Every time you touch the world the world leaves its mark on you and you on it.  Like two ponds touching each other and both rippling in response.  If relationship is an approaching, then how are you in relationship with relationship?  How do you approach approaching?  You judge and interpret the world and the world judges and interprets you.  You try to change the world and the world tries to change you.  Traces left on each other by lovers or gladiators.

I say that all narrative is doxography, point of view.  Research shows that we memorize facts by stringing them together with a narrative, a sutra, a suture, a stitch. That string is our personality, the narrative that we are telling ourselves about how the world works.  It creates our sense of self.  Are we pessimistic?  Are we hyper vigilante?

Imagine that when you listen to a person speaking that you are driving by a very long fence next to a road.  Beyond the fence is a castle, but you can only catch a tiny glimpse each time you pass a slat in the fence.  If you let your eyes focus on the castle it starts to take shape and the fence disappears.  You can’t see the forest because the trees are in the way.

When a person’s world starts to take shape, you begin to become aware of who is speaking and what they are actually saying.  This can be quite troubling for people that conceal what they are.  It drives them crazy, like they are always naked in front of you and clothes were never invented.
